How to Listen to Audio Books on Your Smartphone with Audible

With the growing popularity of smartphones, more people are listening to audio books on their smartphone now than before. People are reading physical paperback books less and less because they are bulky and you have to remember to bring them along. Some people have transitioned to reading eBooks on their smartphones or iPads. This is fine and can be useful if you are on a long bus or train commute. However, you still have to actually read the words with your eyes. It is pretty difficult to read if you are exercising, driving, riding a bike, or walking — which you should not be doing anyway since it is dangerous.

The better alternative is to listen to audible books. You can listen with your smartphone with headphone or with your smartphone’s external speaker. Now you can have something to listen to while you exercise. Walking is great exercise, but it takes a lot of time. Why not listen to audio books at the same time. Get two things done at once. This means that you can set your phone to play the audio book for a fixed duration and then stop (in case you fall asleep). Don’t worry if you missed part of the reading, you can jump back and forward to any point. And you can even bookmark. There is also a button to go back “30 seconds” — in case you weren’t paying attention and was not listening.

I love reading but I’m cheap

I love reading books using the Amazon Kindle app on my smartphone. The problem is I’m cheap and don’t like spending money on books. So I started reading some of the books available for free on Kindle. The problem is many of these books are free for a reason. Not because they are bad but because they are good, very good. They are the first in the series. The author hopes by giving you the first book free, you’ll become hooked and buy the rest of the series. It’s a very effective marketing technique.

I’ve learned a couple tricks to keep my amazon account in the positive without adding any money. That way I can get any Kindle book I want without spending a dime.

How to gift a book on Amazon. Easily share your paperback or a Kindle book

Gifting a Book to Friends and Family

As a writer, you will often want to give a copy of one of your books to certain people.

Perhaps they are a friend or a relative, or it may just be a seasonal or a birthday gift. and at times it’s smart to send a free copy to someone who might help your books sales.

One way to easily send these books to others is by using the Amazon system.

Of course, I am assuming that the book you want to gift is actually listed on Amazon, but considering their dominance in the Book sales industry, this is probably a safe assumption.

Although the process is relatively simple, I am listing th steps here for those of you that might be new to using Amazon for purchasing a product and especially new to sending Amazon products as a gift.

Of course, you can use this same process for gifting any Amazon product, but, again, I am concentrating on gifting a book in this article.
Amazon Membership

First of all, you have to be a member of Amazon.

If you are a writer, and already have an account on Amazon, then you will already have an account. When you signed up for your account, you have to include your personal information including your preferred Credit Card account for them to bill your purchases to.

And, don’t worry, Amazon has a pretty tight security system to assure that they are not hacked so your information is secure from their end.

Of course, you need to keep your personal information secure on your end for any such system to work safely for you.

As you Amazon veteran users know, once you have set up your account with them, you will have access to literally millions of items including their extensive library of books..

And, somewhere in that vast library are your books.

Reasons to GIFT a BOOK

There are many reasons for giving away a copy of your Book, and even for a serious here are some viable business justifications along with personal ones.
Gift your Book to a FRIEND or RELATIVE

Giving a copy of your Book to a friend or relative is a personal decision. Often, you want them to just have a copy, because of your relationship with each other, and sometimes, you just value and want their opinion of your writings.

For whichever reason, these personal gifts are usually special to a writer and well worth the cost of the purchase price.

Invariably, when I gift a book to someone close, whenever I am around them again, they will mention the gift, and I will offer to sign their copy for them. I always enjoy giving these copies of my works out and I even get some good comments from these people who are close to me.
Gift your Book for Exposure

One thing that any writer, especially a struggling or relatively unknown one, needs to do at times is to give copies of their book to certain people in the industry with hopes of increasing their sales.

When you use Amazon for gifting copies, you can use your Amazon sales and purchase records, that they send to you monthly, for your expense records.

In reality, you probably already know that you need to selectively hand out copies to these influential people. Some of the people who can influence you sales are; Potential Professional Reviewers, Book Store owners, Librarians, and others, sometimes even if the possibility that they will ever read your work is remote.
Gift your Book on Seasonal Holidays and Birthdays

Face it, if you are a serious writer, and and need exposure for your books, what is a better reason to send someone a copy than as a Gift on a Holiday or for their Birthday?

A book will always be a great Holiday of Birthday gift for someone and you don’t have to worry about it being the right size or color. And, honestly, it will probably cost you less than pretty much anything else that you might purchase for them.

And, even the most hardened industry professional would not be so gauche as to complain about receiving a book as a gift. Of course,it the book really sucks ………..?

How To Pass The Cscp Exam At The Lowest Possible Cost

A year ago I was asked to become CSCP certified by my employer and I was also asked to get certified at the lowest possible cost. To determine the lowest cost I had to first determine what would be required to pass (there is a lot of resources that are not needed out there) and where can I get the lowest price for those minimum resources. Total cost for the CSCP exam came out to $1,807 and can be done for less than $1,000 if you have a good base of knowledge before taking the test.

1. Sign up for APICS membership – The most expensive Professional enrollment costs $200. The exam costs $725 for non members and $525 for members. If you plan on taking the test you are already even. With the free $40 APICS dictionary you also receive for being a member you are already ahead on your initial $200 APICS membership costs. You will definitely save more than you spend by getting your APICS membership before you take the CSCP exam.

2. CSCP Exam Content Manual – This manual is essential to pass each exam because it tells you want you will be tested on. There is so much that you COULD study, this tells you exactly what to study. I would not attempt taking the CSCP test without this essential booklet. $25 APICS members.

3. APICS Dictionary – Knowing the terminology is very important and can help answer many CSCP questions by just memorizing the terminology. Also, study this document because your terminology at your work may be different than APICS terminology. I personally ran into needing to re-learn certain terms that were different at my work compared to what the APICS dictionary stated. Free for members.

4. Introduction to Materials Management –This book is an excellent text book that can teach the basics needed for the CSCP. This book had simple explanations to help how the entire supply chain works. Don’t forget to use the chapter summary questions area- this is a good way to test the content you know before moving on to the next test. This book by Arnold is available APICS site for $96; however, I found a slightly used book on Amazon for $22.

5. Professional Test Pro’s CSCP Exam Practice Questions runs $90. The software has over 550 questions that simulate the CSCP exam. These questions really helped me learn the content AND the format of questions I would see in the test. Simulated tests and technical explanations helped me accelerate my learning of the required topics.

6. CSCP Learning System This was excellent tool to prepare for the test. This followed the exam content manual and was easy to learn from. Because this learning system is expensive, I would study the other materials to pass instead of purchasing this learning system. For most of us, this learning system is needed, for the few that can deal without it, I would. $ 895 for members.

Following my process above can save you at least $443 over buying the minimum resources on your own. It will save you thousands over buying expensive resources you do not need. Other resources like a teacher led class could cost you over $1000 each! This is very expensive training in these tough times. I would only get some of the more expensive in-person classes and software if you know you are starting behind compared to others and need additional training. If you follow the formula above you should be able to pass the CSCP exam at the lowest possible cost to you or your employer
CSCP Savings Table My Cost
• APICS Membership -$200
• CSCP Exam Registration Fee – $575
• Introduction to Materials Management – $22
• APICS Dictionary – Free
• CSCP Exam Content Manual – $25
• CSCP Professional Test Pro Exam Simulation – $90
• CSCP Learning System – $895
• TOTAL Cost- $1,807
• Total Savings for minimum resources – $443

Read The Ugly Duckling Goes To Work On Amazon Kindle

We need work to farm our living. For some it is fulfilling dream, passion, worship, life etc. Very few are blessed with the work of their interests. Getting a good job is the first stage while the workplace second. Here, the struggle is to get adjusted in the new environment begins. The fight is to give the best and make the office a loving place. Working with various minds isn’t easy. It’s all about complexities, grudges, meanness etc.

Through the book The Ugly Duckling Goes to Work, writer Mette Norgaard revived the childhood tales of Hans Christian Anderson. The tales are interpreted skillfully and convincingly with the realities. The writer attempts to help individuals, be authentic and alive in their organisations/offices and create room for people’s energy. Mette Norgaard delves into siz classic tales of wisdom which connect mus being with the workplace as well as life outside. The tales show how to release life than control it.

The writer picked up The Emperor’s New Clothes which has humor and silliness. The tale suggestes to enjoy the fun in life but never be foolish.

The Ugly Duckling stresses the need to accept that life isn’t a bed of roses. It is risky. We achieve maturity with the growing age and experience which is why life becomes richer, exciting and satisfying.

Pride, arrogance and superiority complex are more than enough to spoil a classic performer. The Dung Beetle tells us not to have false perceptions of ourselves. Life is beyond that.

The Nisse At The Gorcer’s is about insightful management. One man approaches the practical and the ideal, he is able to create his own solutions. The more he integrates the two, the wiser he is. The Fir Tree is a tragic tale about failure to appreciate every worthy moment of life. The tree never takes pleasure in little joys or relish its might of glory. The parable highlights that it is always good to connect ourselves with something worthy and contribute to it as and when possible. The Nightingale appears to be more closer to workplace culture. It has a message of binding people together and work as a healthy team in the interest of organisation. It sings the tunes of discovering strengths and talents. The book peeps into individuality and helps enlighten life at personal and professional level.

This is one of those self-help book you should definitely have in your Amazon Kindle. You can buy it from Amazon or directly from Kindle. Or look it up in the internet, download ht and load it into your Amazon Kindle.

Why Just Sell Your Own Ebook When You Can Sell Amazon Books at No Cost? Become an Amazon Affiliate

If you’re not doing this already, you definitely want to consider selling your book on Amazon is, after all, not just a credible and visible brand. It’s actually the world’s biggest bookstore, and many buyers wouldn’t buy from any other bookstore. This said, to sell your book on Amazon means that you need an ISBN barcode, along with distribution rights. If you are an unknown entity, you might not want to invest in getting a ISBN barcode, as the cheapest bundle of codes will still put you back about $200.

The alternative to being published on Amazon is to become an Amazon Associate. This involves promoting the books of other authors selling on Amazon, on your own website. So instead of just trying to sell your own e-book, you’d now be trying to sell a selection of Amazon Books that address the same niche market as your own book. This may sound like second-best, and even counterproductive if you are trying to sell your own e-book.

1. Gain a Fan-Club of Readers Who Want to Read What You’re Reading

The trick here is to target a very specific market niche and to be selective about the books you promote. If you do this, you’re likely to have repeat visitors to your website. For example, I often check out what Paul L. posts on his website as good reads in sales and marketing. It goes without saying, that one day these readers will likely get curious about what you’ve written as well.

2. Amazon Affiliates Earn a Commission

If you are a writer, you’re likely to be an avid reader yourself. If nothing else, the commission (approx. 4% per sale) will help you keep your own bookshelf stocked.

3. Amazon Affiliates Read

I find the more time I spend in any bookstore, the more likely I will leave, feeling guilty that I have just splurge on 2 or 3 new books. Later, I remember, though, that reading is inspirational, and it helps keep me on my better path.

Amazon Book Sales – How to Increase Your Book’s Visibility in Amazon’s Search Results

Amazon book sales are very important to most authors and publishers, and there are several ways to boost your book’s visibility on Customers on Amazon typically search for books by author, title, or keyword. Like search engines, Amazon uses several criteria in deciding which products to display on the search results page and in what order to display them. Popularity (the number of Amazon book sales already made) and how well the book matches the keywords are major factors in determining the results of keyword searches.

The more Amazon book sales you generate, the more books you will sell in the future, because your book will appear higher in the search results when customers search by your keywords. In addition, many customers assume that the best-selling book must be the best one on the topic.

One way to increase your Amazon book sales, and therefore your search results placement, is to direct all of your online book orders to Amazon, rather than offering several options on your website.

It’s also important to make sure your book matches popular search terms entered by customers. If your book is not yet published, you can add important keywords to the book’s title and subtitle. Some publishers use long subtitles in order to pack in as many keywords as possible.

To capitalize on searches for keywords not contained in the title, enter important keywords into Amazon’s Search Tag feature. On your book’s product page on Amazon, scroll down to the section titled “Tags Customers Associate with This Product.” Enter your keyword tag in the small box provided and click the “Add” button.

You can’t use keywords that already appear in Amazon’s search function, such as the book title or author name. Word order matters, so create different search tags with variations on your most important keywords.

You can personally submit up to ten search terms for your book. If you have additional search terms to enter, ask a colleague to enter some for you. You can also ask colleagues to “vote” for the existing tags on the page by clicking the check box next to the tags.

Another way to increase your “popularity” on Amazon is do a virtual book tour or an “Amazon best-seller campaign,” designed to push up your Amazon sales rank by generating a large number of orders on a single day.

There are a number of other ways to promote your book on Amazon, including getting lots of good Amazon reviews, writing reviews of other related books, participating in the Look Inside program, enhancing your book description, participating in Amazon forums for your book’s topic, and creating Listmania lists and So You’d Like To guides.

[TrendTalk] Amazon’s new ‘billboard’ book store

Amazon just opened its first book store in Seattle stocked with books at the same discounted price as on its website. Is this a new disruption for the book publishing industry or just a giant interactive billboard for Amazon?
The bricks and mortar store in Seattle’s University Village is stocked with 6000 books at cut prices, complete with reader reviews from the website. Books are forward facing with the Amazon reviews below each one and the star rating they received online. It will also stock the books that have received the most amount of pre-orders online. The physical store is also an extension of Amazon’s physical collection points, where it has rolled out lockers for physical collection at various points in the US.

The publishing industry is hailing the move by Amazon as a revival of the printed book (Waterstones in the UK also recently gleefully announced it was removing its Kindles ‘due to virtually no sales’ and giving the space over to hardcover books); but it is merely on trend, according to Deloitte, as new retail models arise out of new technologies and new ways to interact with consumers.

Wired magazine almost goes as far as to dismiss the new store opening by Amazon as a stunt, terming it a “giant billboard” for Amazon and certainly not a reversal of its billion-dollar online publishing and distribution model.

Image via Pexels

As Wired writes: “It can afford those cut-rate prices, of course, because Amazon Books is as much a bookstore as it is a billboard. Amazon’s not suddenly betting big on the bookstore business, and it certainly doesn’t need the store to be a success in order for Amazon to succeed. It’s better to think of Amazon Books as a giant advertisement. If it makes a little extra money for a $294.7bn company, all the better.”

As Deloitte points out in its latest retail report from Deloitte’s Center for the Edge, ‘Retail Transformation – cultivating choice, experience, and trust’, bricks and mortar assets can serve online retailers well as they “serve as a stage for customised consumer experiences that go far beyond ambience to surprise and educate the consumer. Done right, these experiences can become so valuable that they inspire consumers to choose to pay for them”.

How people shop

Deloitte looks back at the transformation of the retail sector over the last century and concludes that change in each case – from village grocer to the high street shopping model to e-commerce, and so on – has been driven by “larger technological and social shifts” and real fundamental changes in how people shop.

“Every one of them increased consumer choice while reducing consumers’ total cost in terms of money, time and opportunity.”

So we can bemoan about the loss of culture and our trendy little spots, but as consumers, we also want cheaper books and easier ways of accessing what we want. The flip side is that consumers will also pay more for a valuable or worthy experience. Trends are driven and consolidated by human needs. Those needs can be influenced, of course, but we have to want the change.

What Amazon has done is create a huge, real-time customer test house. It wouldn’t surprise me if the entire store was infested with camera’s and beamed into Amazon HQ as the book store version of ‘Big Brother’.

Amazon is clearly working on the next publishing and distribution model and it might, in this case, actually have an impact on the leisure and entertainment industry this time too, not just retail with a return to ‘Ye Olde Book Shoppe’!

Deloitte says we are actually entering a world of abundance with all the choice through online retail and distribution. Consumers now create demand and inspire trends. Engaged consumers are the ones shaping brand message these days – so no wonder Amazon wants to observe a segment of its consumers in their natural habitat, ‘the book store’, to ensure it reaches all effectively.

“In this complex and evolving environment, retailers should fundamentally reassess both their roles and the way they create value for consumers. The retailers that will be most effective in today’s marketplace will likely be those that fundamentally rethink the retail experience, developing business models that blend physical, virtual, and community experiences,” Deloitte notes, in analysing big shifts in consumer and retail trends for 2015/2016.

The niche, craft, maker movement that is another key retail trend, is diametrically opposed to mass commercialisation, where consumers prize authenticity and real experiences, may be another reason Amazon wants options. Who doesn’t love an authentic book store to lose yourself in for a couple of hours?

Amazon opens first physical bookstore

SAN FRANCISCO – US online giant Amazon, which has led the bookselling industry’s shift to the Internet, opens its first physical bookstore on Tuesday.
Amazon opens first physical bookstore
© Rafal Olkis –
“These aren’t metaphorical doors: these real, wooden doors are the entrance to our new store in Seattle’s University Village,” the company said on a web page for the shop, located in Amazon’s hometown in the northwest state of Washington.

The store, called Amazon Books, “is a physical extension of” which “integrates the benefits of offline and online book shopping,” the company said.

“The books in our store are selected based on customer ratings, pre-orders, sales, popularity on Goodreads and our curators’ assessments. These are fantastic books! Most have been rated four stars or above, and many are award-winners.”

Amazon said prices will be identical online and at the bookstore, and it encouraged customers to use its mobile application to read reviews and get more information about items.

“Amazon Books is a store without walls – there are thousands of books available in store and millions more available at,” the statement said.

“Walk out of the store with a book; lighten your load and buy it online.”
